Abstract: How do I convey my scientific knowledge to a broad audience in an engaging way? How can I break linear storylines to make my texts more accessible? How can I enrich knowledge transfer through multimedia and interactivity? The Weizenbaum fundamentals (e.g., digital sovereigntydigital democracy) illustrate how scientific knowledge can be presented in a modern and compelling way on a website. These compact overviews are built using the content management system “OpenPaper.” This workshop offers an introduction to this new open-source, open-access CMS, which is now available to all WI staff (research and administration). In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to build and publish your own digital publications. Bring your laptop and start your first project right away. No prior CMS or web design experience is required. The workshop is presented by Merja Mahrt and Esther Görnemann from the WI research unit “Research Syntheses”, and moderated by Markus Brandenburg and Fabian Hassel from MADEFUL, the agency behind OpenPaper.

Markus Brandenburg and Fabian Hassel are the design team behind OpenPaper. They bring the conceptual thinking that shaped the platform and a hands-on understanding of how complex knowledge can be made readable, interactive, and accessible to a wider audience. In the workshop, they draw on their everyday experience helping organizations communicate clearly and purposefully in the digital space.

Esther Görnemann and Merja Mahrt lead the WI research unit Research Syntheses. They have developed the format Weizenbaum fundamentals, which offer an up-to-date, critical and in-depth overview of the state of research of relevant topics of digitalization.
